Privacy Policy

This site is a reference work. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log into, and nothing on it sends us information about you, which keeps this policy shorter and plainer than most. What follows describes what actually happens when you visit, not what a template assumes.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth or any other personal detail. There are no accounts, no newsletter sign-up and no enquiry forms of ours. The only boxes on the site you can type into are the ZIP searches in the sponsored listings and in the sponsored bar at the bottom of the screen, and what you type there goes to Esyoh, the network that serves them, not to us.

We do not sell or rent personal information, because we do not hold any. We do not run retargeting pixels, social media trackers, session recording or heat mapping. The one advertising network on the site is described under Advertising below.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand which pages people find useful. Google acts as our data processor and receives your IP address, which it truncates before storage, along with your browser and device type, the pages you view, how long you stay and the site or search that referred you.

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser for this purpose, typically named _ga and _ga_<id>. They distinguish one visitor from another across pages and repeat visits. They carry no name, email address or anything else that identifies you to us, and we never attempt to connect them to a person.

You can block this entirely. Any browser setting or extension that blocks Google Analytics will stop it loading, and the site works identically without it. Google publishes its own opt-out browser add-on, and its handling of the data it receives is governed by Google's privacy policy rather than this one.

Advertising

Most pages carry sponsored school listings, each labeled Ad. On large screens there is also a sponsored column under the contents list, and after you scroll, a ZIP search bar can appear at the bottom of the screen, labeled Ad as well. All of them are served by Esyoh, at esyoh.com, an advertising network for schools, and this site may be paid when readers request information from or enroll at schools through them. The about, methodology, privacy, terms and advertising disclosure pages carry none; the disclosure page explains how to tell the listings apart from the rankings.

To show the listings, Esyoh's script sends Esyoh the address of the page you are on and its title and main heading, so the listings match the subject. Your IP address reaches Esyoh with the request, which is how the listings are matched to a rough location, and the script tells Esyoh when a listing comes into view, which is how it counts the ads it has shown. It also works out an identifier from your browser and device settings, such as screen size, time zone and language, and sends it with each request; when you follow a listing, it adds a coded summary of those settings to the link, which Esyoh's own script describes as a check against fraudulent clicks.

It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. We checked this in a browser rather than taking it on trust. A ZIP code typed into a listing's search box or the bar opens Esyoh's site in a new tab and goes to Esyoh, as does anything you submit there, under Esyoh's own privacy policy. If you block esyoh.com, the listings, the column and the bar never appear and the rest of the page works exactly the same.

The listings are laid out by a script this site serves itself, which rearranges what Esyoh sends so it matches the page. It sends nothing anywhere and stores nothing. It does tell Google Analytics, described above, when a sponsored listing has been seen or clicked and which one, and whether a ZIP search was made, never the ZIP code itself.

What Is Stored On Your Device

If you use the light and dark toggle in the header, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage under the key theme so the site does not flash the wrong colors the next time you open it. If you close the sponsored ZIP search bar at the bottom of the screen, a note saying so is kept in session storage under esy-sticky-dismissed, so it stays closed for the rest of your visit; session storage clears when you close the tab. Neither is a cookie, neither ever leaves your device, and clearing your browser storage removes both.

Server Logs

This site is served as static files by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which keeps standard access and security logs. Those logs are how any web host distinguishes a real visitor from an attack, and they are handled under Cloudflare's own privacy terms. We do not use them to build profiles of visitors.

Links To Schools And Other Sites

Every program on this site links out to the school's own page, and our pages cite federal sources including IPEDS and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Every link in a sponsored listing goes to Esyoh. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else's site, subject to their privacy policy and their trackers, not ours. We have no control over and take no responsibility for what they collect.

How This Site Makes Money

This site may receive compensation when readers request information from or enroll at schools through its sponsored listings, which are served by the ad network Esyoh and each labeled Ad. Those listings are not scored or ranked and cannot affect any ranking. Accreditation status, wage data, and program structure data are sourced directly from official records and are reported the same way whether or not a school advertises.

The sponsored listings, and the affiliate links in them, are how this site supports itself. What it earns from them pays for the research, the data updates and the hosting behind every page, and keeps the site free to read, with no account and no paywall.

Worth being precise about what that means: the links in the rankings are plain outbound links to schools' own pages. We do not operate lead forms and we pass no visitor information to schools. What Esyoh receives, it collects through its own script, as described under Advertising. If that ever changes, this policy and the disclosure will change with it, and the change will be dated at the top of this page.

Children

This site is written for people choosing a university degree and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them, which is straightforward here given we do not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Your Rights

Privacy laws including the GDPR in Europe and the UK, and the CCPA and CPRA in California, give you rights to access, correct, delete and port personal data an organization holds about you, and to object to its processing. We hold no personal data about visitors, so in practice there is nothing for us to return or erase.

The exception is any email you choose to send us. If you write to us, we hold that email in order to reply to it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time. To exercise any right, or to ask what we hold, write to hello@savomediagroup.com.

What Esyoh's script collects goes to Esyoh directly from your browser, and requests about what Esyoh holds go to Esyoh. Blocking esyoh.com in your browser stops the script from loading and from collecting anything.

Changes To This Policy

If what we collect changes, this page changes first and the date at the top moves. The cases most likely to trigger that are enabling analytics, a change to the advertising, and adding any form that submits information.
